How My Axia Car Relates to My Career — And The Psychology Behind It

Image
Stereotypically in Malaysia, Perodua Axia is labeled as the cheapest car for university students, B40s, and underpaid workers. This car is an economical icon 🚗 that serves the purpose of getting you from point A to B. Despite the stereotypes, I drive one with the main character's energy 🔥. I am very proud 😎 to drive a 2016 Manual Transmission White Perodua Axia SE.  I named my Axia 小白 (Xiao Bai) literally means Lil' White I am emotionally attached to this car and had no 🚫 plan to upgrade. Zettai ni!  There will always be voices that tryna brainwash and influence me to upgrade to a better car. My aunt said the bigger, the more branded the vehicle will make you more respectable. Yes. I don't deny that we humans are mentally biased to associate the finer things in life with higher life status. My neighbor also compared me with my other neighbor that works as a petrol pump cashier but owns a Suzuki Swift. Meh, who cares? People care a lot about other people while lacking th...

Simplifying Complicated Form

Image
Are all of our end-users lazy? No ❌ ( maybe some ), they just want things to go easy for them to use. They like simplified things. Lesser time spent on doing things = more time to do other things. We live in the IT era where  working smart is the new work hard . So, as the product designers, we need to make our product outsmart the intended user's expectations 🧠📈.  Today I will share my process of simplifying a complicated-looking form into a simpler one. The original structure is the exact requirements and was designed by the client themself. Ideally, a module should be relevant to all other clients, instead of just fitting a single client. So, to satisfy all stakeholders we need to audit the client's requirements, audit them out, question the reasons why❓, and point out any peculiarity before coming out with an improved UX and UI for their request. Disclaimer: YES. I KNOW. UX-wise, it is a sin 🚫 to use a modal dialog to host hi-stake and complex processes [ context ]. I ...

Timing is Everything (Part 2)

Image
All we want is to be in the right place at the right time. It’s all about having a good instinct for when the time is ripe to make a move. The proper timing is an important part of your career since it reduces friction and enables you to accomplish more in less time. In conclusion, timing is crucial to productivity and time management. I want it, I got it.  We're just peasants. We're not like those riches, corrupt politicians with money, power, and cables  to easily get what we want. To ask for something, we need to spend some effort to: 💩 Finding the right context  💩 Directly reducing blockers   💩 Be easily adaptable and align your goals with the environment  💩 Preparing enough resources 💩 Listening to yourself very carefully 1. Find the right context (by chance, easy), or create it (hard). The context here means the surrounding circumstances that relate to your to-do action. The first rule of good timing is to find the right context support...

Setting Up a Habit is Easy, But Making Them Stick – Hard AF

Image
I planned to blog consistently this year, perhaps monthly. But it turns out to be easier to plan than to execute. Why? I used to post my writings weekly during my university days. Sadly, as time goes by I started to have high standards and expectations regarding what I wanted to write and post. I want all my content to have a certain level of new knowledge/benefits that would impress me if I were the reader. In order to do so, I need to read more articles and studies; eventually costing me more time — which nowadays I don't have the luxury of. Sigh. Who sets the rule for my post to be self-impressive? Me . Are the readers' levels of 'This is Impressive' as same as mine?  Not sure . Then why should I care much about how other people perceive my writings? Logically speaking, I am the one that ruins the fun of this writing habit.  I'm the one that did this to myself . I have plenty of drafts. Rereading them made me hate myself. But probably I should stop caring too muc...

Career Tips — How to be a Happy Salaryman

Image
Sorry for the spoiler, I assume at this rate all should be well-informed that our beloved jaded guy, Nanami died a heroic death. Such a pity for a daddy character like him to go wasted, what's important, our finest guy, Gojo is still there. Nevertheless, I am going to share some career tips to make you (hopefully) stay happy. DISCLAIMER Psychologically speaking writing, my tips are only legible and relatable for those that are working on the career that you've majored in during your university/college days. For example, you've studied IT and worked with an IT company once you graduated. Then, yes — This post is for you. If you're studying IT and then ended up being a fashion designer, maybe you can only relate to this 20-30%. Congratulation! You are among the few Malaysians that are lucky enough to score a job that you (maybe) are passionate about. Be grateful that during these pandemic days you're not being thrown away to other industries like F&B, hospitali...

Answering Random Question – August 2021

Image
I haven't posted anything since January 2021. So, I made an IG story to ask people to ask me. So, Q1: Mcm mana ko stay motivated - D You will die. And you won't know when, where and how. Aku selalu fikir, akan banyak benda yang aku menyesal bila mati, welp, macam time yang aku tak optimizekan utk be happy and buat benda yang beneficial utk aku, badan aku and orang lain yang layak.  Aku tahu time-time pandemik ni akan buat orang terperam kat rumah, WFH, overloaded dengan kerja office + kerja2 housewife kalau dah married, tapi kau kena ingat, time won't wait. Dia tak tunggu kau sedih ke, depressed ke, dia jalan terus. So, do something. Be productive, hobi yg beneficial ke, workout ke utk kesihtan, belajar skills baru ke, masak ke. Aku tengok drama/movie jugak, tapi aku limit masa. Dapat apa je layan drama non-stop? Tapi medical knowledge tengok drama medical korea useful jugaklah. As for how I stay motivated to cycle for kilometers daily, sebabnya;   Basikal aku mahal...

Takeaways from 'The Minimalists — Less Is Now'

Image
This documentary has been heavily, significantly impacted me. It's been day-2 since I watched this, but the aftereffect is still lingering on me today when I contemplating buying that Fjallravel Ulvo fanny that I really want for my jogging session. So here are the takeaways from Netflix's The Minimalists — Less Is Now by Ryan and Josh. Minimalist is not just about room decor, it's about decluttering, simplifying, and organizing your life. We often confuse simplicity with easy, living a simple life takes a lot of work. Going minimalist means to remove the excess to focus on what really important. Minimalist is not just an aesthetic attribute, it is the clutter-free way of life. We've been impulse buying too much.  We bought too much clutter into our lives, and most of the time it did not add any value. As we get more space, we want to fill it with more things, as we get more things, we need a bigger space after, the cycle will go on and on and on. What is essential, wha...
